Rob Holland resigns from Port of Seattle Commission

Port Commissioner Rob Holland today submitted a letter of resignation to King County Council Chair Larry Gossett.  Commissioner Holland is leaving the port to pursue other professional opportunities. His service on the Port of Seattle Commission, which began in 2010, will end effective March 15.

“The port’s mission of creating jobs and expanding economic opportunity for everyone in our community will remain close to my heart,” said Commissioner Holland. “The working waterfront is an engine for jobs that lifts families up into prosperity. I am grateful for the opportunity I had to serve the people of King County on economic justice issues and look forward to continuing my community service in other venues.”

Commissioner Holland has been a leader in the port’s effort to promote small business growth and workforce development, a central element of the Commission’s Century Agenda. He has been an outspoken advocate for seaport competitiveness in the global marketplace, establishing free trade zones to spur private-sector innovation, and to raise awareness of the tragedy of human trafficking.

“Rob has been a powerful advocate for working families during his service on the Commission,” said Commission President Tom Albro. “He firmly believes that a rising tide must lift all boats, a sentiment that I know we all share. While we will miss Rob’s voice in our meetings, we know he will continue to advance important issues.”

The Port Commission is already engaged in a process to fill a vacancy resulting from Gael Tarleton’s resignation to serve in the Washington State House of Representatives. With this additional vacancy, the Commission will now have the opportunity to appoint two commissioners to serve until November.

The public will have two opportunities to listen to and interact with Commission candidates at public meetings: 6 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Downtown Seattle Public Library and 6 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the Renton City Council chambers. The Commission expects to make the two appointments in early March.
