The 40th anniversary of Roe v Wade and the freedom and privacy

From NARAL Washington:

Today we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Roe v Wade and the freedom and privacy it guaranteed women to make reproductive health decisions for themselves and their families.

But 40 years haven’t stopped anti-choice zealots from trying to call the shots on women’s health. In fact, they are in Olympia right now meeting with our legislators.

We can’t let that go unanswered.

Please join NARAL Pro-Choice Washington and celebrate the anniversary of Roe v Wade by taking a moment to contact your legislator by calling 1-800-562-6000.

Say you’re in

Today, a new grassroots organization is being launched: Organizing for Action.

Following in the footsteps of the campaign you built, Organizing for Action will be an unparalleled force in American politics. It will work to turn our shared values into legislative action — and it’ll empower the next generation of leaders in our movement.

Michelle recorded a video to tell you more about the new organization — take a look and let OFA know you’re in:

http://my.barackobama.com/Organizing-for-Action

We may have started this as a long shot presidential primary campaign in 2007, but it’s always been about more than just winning an election. Together, we’ve made our communities stronger, we’ve fought for historic legislation, and we’ve brought more people than ever before into the political process.

We have the power to do even more to change our politics and our country for the better. With Organizing for Action, you’ll have every resource you need to do it.

But it starts with you. This new organization is in your hands.

I’m so excited to see what you all do next — and so grateful to be part of it.

Thanks,

Barack

11th LD reorg meeting: January 15th

Just a reminder… The reorganization meeting is this Tuesday, January 15th at 7pm. Details are on our calendar entry on our website.

Seattle and King County Launch Gun Buyback Program.

Collectively touting it as “one tool in the toolbox” against gun violence, a collection of Seattle mayors past and present along with King County Executive Dow Constantine, Seattle Police Deputy Chief Nick Metz, Dr. David Fleming of Public Health Seattle & King County, Renee Hopkins of the Seattle Police Foundation and Reverend Aaron Williams of Seattle’s Mount Zion Baptist Church today announced the launch of a Seattle and King County gun buyback program. The effort is part of a larger endeavor aimed at reducing gun violence that’s going under the header “Gun Safety Initiative.”

With former Seattle mayors Greg Nickels, Norm Rice, Charles Royer and Wes Uhlman acting as co-chairs of the program, the Gun Safety Initiative aims to be an “expression of what our community our believes,” according to McGinn, as well as the “beginning of a dialogue” about guns and what can be done to make our communities safer.
