Rob Holland resigns from Port of Seattle Commission

Rob Holland, member of the 11th LD, is resigning from the Port of Seattle Commission.  This means the Commission will appoint a second commissioner until November.

The public will have two opportunities to listen to and interact with Commission candidates at public meetings: 6 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Downtown Seattle Public Library and 6 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the Renton City Council chambers. The Commission expects to make the two appointments in early March.

Every other year (the odd years) the State Party holds its re-organization meeting.  Spirits were very high within the WSDCC membership coming off very successful election results in November.

Everyone is very pleased to have a Democratic President, Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, and others State officials, strong victories at the congressional delegate level, retaining a big majority in the state House of Representatives and delivering the democratic vote in  retaining what we could in the state Senate.

Bylaws Approval – February 2013

As required by our Bylaws, approval of the new Bylaws after a reorganization is required by the next general meeting. Our reorganization meeting was in January, and the next general meeting is on February 19th at the Carpenter’s Hall in Renton.

Here are the bylaws for review.  Nothing has changed since last year except removal of some typos left over from the last update (page numbers with an old date embedded in).

11th LD Leadership Retreat, Planning, and E-Board Meeting

The date, time and location of this month’s e-board meeting has been changed. We’ve decided to host a leadership retreat to allow for broader discussion and planning for the upcoming year. As always, the meetings are open to attend and input is always welcome. Only elected officers can vote.

Martha Koester testified in front of the WA State Health Care Wellness Committee

martha_02012013Martha Koester, a former Chair of the 11th LD, testified in front of the WA State Health Care Wellness Committee on February 1st, 2013.

The WA State Health Care Wellness Committee, with all 9 Democrat and 3 of 8 Republican Representatives attending, listened to public testimony concerning House Bill 1085. The SB 5224 is the companion bill in the Senate cosponsored by Senator Bob Hasagawa.  These bills are derived from Vermont’s Green Mountain Care legislation and will provide single payer health care for all Washington residents.  They implement provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, AKA Obama Care.  Washington Health Security Trust  is supporting passage of  these bills and solicit your participation.
